Connecticut (CT) Broadleaf is a legendary, sun-grown American tobacco, historically cultivated in the fertile Connecticut River Valley. It is the essential choice for creating rich, dark-hued Maduro cigar wrappers.
- Robust Leaf: True to its name, this variety produces exceptionally large, squat, and thick leaves that are heavy, oily, and highly elastic. It is harvested by the traditional "stalk-cut" method, where the entire plant is taken to the barn.
- Deep Flavor Profile: Known for its bold, complex character, CT Broadleaf offers a rich, earthy, and toasty flavor profile, often with pronounced notes of sweetness, chocolate, and espresso.
- Dark Coloration: The leaf achieves its signature deep brown to near-black color through a long air-curing process followed by extensive fermentation (aging in piles called pilones), which develops its highly-prized texture and flavor.
While it is a challenging leaf to work with, its unique, muscular flavor and distinctive dark aesthetic make Connecticut Broadleaf a highly coveted and premium ingredient for master cigar blenders worldwide.
In comparison to our Glasgow Magistrate Wrapper, this leaf is a little richer and darker. Looking for it in binder or filler grade? Look no further. This leaf is suitable in those positions, as well.
In comparison to our Nicaraguan Rosada DAC Wrapper, African Cameroon Binder or our Ecuadorian Sumatra Wrapper, this leaf will be a bit darker and heavier.Â

Andrew Wright –
First off, thank you Kevin for helping me fix my order. I mistakenly had 2 browsers open with the order screen at the same time with two separate selections and I purchased on the wrong screen. So thank you again for helping me out.
Things are changing in the industry. Certain tobacco selections aren’t being offered to the public in whole leaf anymore. Connecticut broadleaf wrapper is impossible to get right now but thanks to Total Leaf for making it happen. This stuff is thick, rich, and good. It offered tons of earthy sweet cocoa notes on top of binder and base filler blend that I use. Adding a good amount of ligero filler, the earthy sweet cocoa notes joint with a deep full bodied very pronounced espresso character.
The only drawback is due to the nature of CB being sungrown, the leaf is very thick and requires a alot of touch ups with a lighter. This issue can probably be corrected with allowing a longer post-roll resting period. Also, don’t expect perfect rolling construction as these leaves have very prominent veins.
I love this stuff.
